Vintage Japanese Wooden Lacquered Obon Tray w/ Maki-e Design
This is a Japanese vintage wooden lacquered tray, or Obon, typically used for serving drinks and snacks to guests in one's home, business, etc. Black outside, caramel brown inside, and a gold rim, this sturdy rectangular tray provides both function and beautiful decor.
The gold plant and flower designs are called maki-e, a decorative painting technique done by sprinkling gold powder onto wet lacquer before it hardens.
This was purchased at the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya
