Vintage Japanese Wooden Small Plate, Meimeizara
This is a vintage Japanese small plate called meimeizara or kozara. Meimeizara are often used in Japanese tea ceremonies for wagashi sweets, but can be used for other small desserts or dishes or even as teacup saucers (chataku) as they are large enough to hold a small spoon on the side. This plate has a clear coat brushed lacquer finish on the sides and bottom and is lacquered with a brilliant red on the top surface and a classic black rim.
