Japanese Lacquered Wooden Haribako Sewing Chest
This is a Japanese sewing box, also called Haribako. Lacquered with a natural dark brown color, it is decorated with maki-e flowers (plum blossom, water iris, and hydrangea). This tansu chest has five differently-sized drawers with simple metal hardware. A panel in the lid opens to reveal a narrow tray. There is also a slot on the side that houses a small ruler. This beautiful piece can also be used for storing sewing supplies, jewelry, or other trinkets.
Acquired from the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya, Japan
