Vintage Japanese Lacquered Bamboo Rantai Box

This is a Japanese rectangular box made of woven strips of bamboo and lacquered with a striking red color. It has a loosely fitted lid that can be used as a small tray. Inside it is lined with shimmering beige washi paper. This small lidded box is an excellent size to store small items such as craft or stationary materials, cosmetics, jewelry, or other trinkets.
Rantai shikki is a type of lacquerware that focuses on coating woven baskets with lacquer.
