This is a Japanese hanging scroll (Kakejiku) weight, Fuchin. This is Kutani ware. It is shaped like a gourd. "立春大吉" (auspicious words) is written in Kanji. Fuchin is a decoration that hangs on both ends of the bottom of a hanging scroll. It's a decoration and a weight.
