Vintage Japanese Porcelain Bell Dorei
This is a vintage Japanese porcelain bell, or dorei. This bell is made of kutani ware porcelain and is shaped like a classic bell in white and pink with painted flowers (plum blossom and chrysanthemum). It has a tan brown braided cord tied to the top loop. There are three small bumps for legs to allow the bell to stand.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 3000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
