Vintage Japanese Lidded Turtle Inkpot
This is a lidded Japanese inkpot inkstone, suzuri, used for holding ink. It is a necessary tool in calligraphy (shodo) and traditional penmanship (shuji). It is small and made of a black stone. It is in the shape of a minogane turtle with a little baby on its back (on the lid). The neck of the larger turtle can be used as a brush rest.
Mythical minogane turtles represent longevity and good fortune.
