Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features calligraphy of likely a poem. It also has a colored illustration of a lotus root, or renkon, at the bottom. This piece is signed and has several red seals.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
