Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a reproduction of a picture by artist Miyamoto Musashi representing a bird standing at the top of a vertical branch of an old tree. The piece has a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box with the title and the artist's name on the lid, and a label on the inside.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
