Vtg Japanese Boys' Day Taiko Drum Display
This is a vintage Japanese taiko drum display set out during Boys' Day (also known as Children's Day). This amazing, eye-catching set has three drums resting on a black lacquered stand. The main drum has a sparkling brown and gold body with gold resin heads as well as orange braided silk tassels. The smaller drums have a matte wood-like surface with gold resin heads as well. All drum bodies are made of resin and have a spiral mon/kamon symbol on the front side. The stand is made of wood and lacquered a glossy black with gold painted designs of more round mon symbols. There are small metal chrysanthemum decorations on the front side of the stand.
Gogatsu-Ningyo (May dolls) are amulets wishing for the health and growth of children that are displayed during the Boys' Festival. Other items such as armor decorations, helmet decorations, and warrior dolls (warlords) are also popular.
