Vtg Japanese Traditional Paddle Hagoita With Box
This item is a Hagoita wooden paddle decorated with fabric. It shows a Japanese woman (geisha) dressed in a gorgeous red and white kimono and holding a gold folding fan. The woman wears the traditional hairdo and a gorgeous headpiece. The cloth part of the kimono is made of silk. The back of the paddle is painted and the handle is covered with a black and gold velvet fabric. This hagoita paddle comes in its original paper box. Shuttlecocks are not included.
Hagoita is the wooden paddle used to hit shuttlecocks made of soapberry seeds and bird feathers, that is used to play the traditional Japanese pastime called Hanetsuki ( Japanese badminton) during the New Year. This is a three-dimensional fabric art (Oshie-Hagoita) of a woman or geisha in a kimono. The design is beautiful, so it would be nice as a room decoration.
