Vtg Japanese Ceramic Mask Decoration
This is a vintage Japanese ceramic souvenir decorative mask. It represents one of nine faces made famous by Kirishima Shrine in Kagoshima. This one is red with gold eyes and teeth, and boast the appearance of a devil or angry man. It has a hole on each side to attach a string for display.
The masks that represent Kirishima Shrine are considered auspicious and bring good fortune in business and finance. Every year, there is a Japanese drumming (taiko) group that dons these masks and performs on New Years Day.
