Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Orin Bell
This is a large vintage Japanese orin bell for Buddhist altars. It contains a hammered bronze bowl with an animal skin-covered striker with a lacquered black handle. It rests on a red and gold silk flower-shaped pillow with a gold tassel. Singing bowls are sounded during ritual prayer.
Orin bell sound can reach the Buddha in the Pure Land. It is also used to ward off people's evil spirits and convey prayers to the Buddha, ancestors, and the deceased through sound.
