 Vintage Japanese Matchstick Disposal Jar for Buddhist Altar  

This item is a vintage metal matchstick extinguisher jar (hikeshi) made for use as an altar fitting in a Japanese Buddhist altar.  It is a tool that can safely dispose of matches after lighting candles or incense by inserting a used matchstick into the hole in the lid. It is mostly black and cylindrical with the exception of the brown metal finial on the lid.

  • Good condition considering age. Charring around hole in lid. Some wax residue. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
