Vintage Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Lacquer Offering Table

This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar offering table (Maejyoku). It is coated with gold and black lacquer. It contains one removable tabletop piece. The edges are decorated with simple brass metal. The top piece has a unique lacquer technique called nishiji nuri, a lacquer style that usually features glossy black with copper-colored flecks or glitter.
In the case of memorial services, a piece of cloth called Uchishiki is inserted between the two top pieces. There are two types of offering tables Maejyoku and Uwajyoku. Maejoku is placed in front of the Shumidan. It is used for 3 Gusoku (candle stand, flower vase, and incense burner). Uwajoku is placed in front of Amidanyorai. It is used for a flower vase, a rice cup, and a kasha incense burner.
