Japanese Uchishiki Embroidered Buddhist Altar Tablecloth
This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar tablecloth Uchishiki. It is light green openwork fabric for summer, embroidered with gold floral patterns. It has a kanji stamp that says "Silk". Triangular uchishiki is mainly used by followers of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism as the upper table (Maejyoku) and the front table (Uwajyoku) in the Buddhist altar during events such as New Year's Day, the equinoctial week, Obon, and memorial services.
