Japanese Uchishiki Embroidered Buddhist Altar Tablecloth
This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar tablecloth Uchishiki. This is gold phoenix embroidery on an orange background. It has a kanji stamp that says "Silk, Jogane weaving". Triangular uchishiki is mainly used by followers of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism as the upper table (Maejyoku) and the front table (Uwajyoku) in the Buddhist altar during events such as New Year's Day, the equinoctial week, Obon, and memorial services.
