Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Decorative Parts
This is a vintage Japanese part of a Buddhist altar, or butsudan. It is called shumidan or Sumeru Altar. It is the last tier before reaching the Buddha in this representation. The design is carved from wood and features a line of lotus flowers and leaves. At the base, there are brass metal embellishments. As it is made to fit between two other pieces, the top and bottom are not lacquered.
