Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Box

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a couple of elderly people walking in a forest. Turtles and cranes, as a symbol of longevity,  are also part of this scene, as well as a beautiful pine tree. The title of this piece is Horainisen and signed by the artist Kinun and red seals. It is stored in a paper box.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
