Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features 33 red seals (goshuin) from the 33 Buddhist temples of the Saigoku pilgrimage. There is an image of Kannon at the center of the piece. It is stored in a wooden box. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
