Japanese Ukiyoe Art Book of Utamaro Bijinga

This is a vintage Japanese art book of Bijinga woodblock prints (ukiyo-e). The title is Treasured Utamaro, and Utamaro is a Ukiyoe artist famous for portraying beautiful women in the Edo era. This book is about Utamaro, his paintings and explanations, his life, various signatures and seals, his publishing history, etc. The paintings in this book are mostly Bijinga or portraits of beautiful women, including Shunga, but some depict plants and living things. It also tells about Utamaro in English at the end.
This book is a limited publication of a thousand and five hundred.
Shunga is Japanese erotic art made traditionally by ukiyoe woodblock printing. Though these types of images and books are associated with general art as well as personal entertainment, the images in shunga were also used as an educational tool for youth and young married couples.
Ukiyoe is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties, kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers, scenes from history and folk tales, travel scenes and landscapes, flora and fauna, and erotica.
