Vintage Japanese Ichimatsu Ningyo Doll 

This is an authentic vintage Japanese Ichimatsu doll or Ningyo. It is large and dressed in a black kimono with red and gold silk accessories decorated with floral and landscape designs.  The head/face is finished with gofun and has soulful brown glass eyes. The hands and feet are crafted from a soft plastic (mostly hidden). The body is one solid piece of hard styrofoam to keep it lightweight. The hair is dense and cut thick. She has a removable wooden peg stand painted black.

Japanese ningyo traditionally represent children and were made both as toys and decorative objects, often reflecting the craftsmanship and cultural aesthetics of their time. Ichimatsu ningyo in particular were traditionall crafted to resemble kabuki actors, however, in their popularity, they expanded to decorative display dolls often displayed annually during Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day on March 3rd).
