Vtg Japanese Traditional Paddle Hagoita
This Japanese vintage wooden paddle is decorated with a three-dimensional fabric art (Oshie-Hagoita) of a woman or geisha in a kimono, also called hagoita. It shows a Japanese woman (geisha) dressed in a gorgeous orange, silver, red, and gold kimono with floral and geometrical patterns. The woman holds a fan and wears a traditional hairdo with a magnificent orange and gold headpiece. The cloth part of the kimono is made of silk and other fabrics. The back of the paddle is painted with plum blossoms. The handle is covered with a black velvet fabric. **Shuttlecocks are not included.
Hagoita is the wooden paddle used to hit shuttlecocks made of soapberry seeds and bird feathers. It is used to play the traditional Japanese pastime of Hanetsuki (Japanese badminton) during the New Year.
