Japanese Tea Ceremony Kettle Lid/Ladle Rest, Futaoki

This vintage Japanese kettle lid and ladle rest, called futaoki, is an important addition to any traditional tea ceremony set. Made of porcelain, this Kyo-yaki futaoki has a crackle beige glaze with red and green momiji leaves and painted gold banding.
Traditionally, this item is used for both the kettle lid and the ladle at their respective times. First, the ladle is rested on the futaoki until the first cup of hot water is served. Then the kettle's lid is placed upon it.
