Japanese Antique Katagami Kimono Stencil Katazome
Details: In the late Edo period 1860, the Japanese used Ise Katagami for dying fabrics called Katazome. This katagami has a beautiful line design. These stencils are made from the bark of the mulberry tree and glue extracted from persimmon which makes the paper strong and water resistant. These beautiful Ise Katagami from the Ise area in central Japan have no silk lining, unlike most katagami. The thickness of the katagami differs in how they use it. Thin katagami is usually used for fine designs, and thicker ones are used for bold patterns.

Condition: Good condition considering it's age. Please see the photos. Wear and tear due to the age.
