Vtg Japanese Traditional Washi Paper Art
This is a large panel of handcrafted washi paper art. It uses thick, dark blue paper with incorporated loops of rope and string for depth and texture, and has small splatters of yellow, red, purple made from other pieces of paper. It also features subtle flecks of gold paint.
Washi paper has a whole host of materials and uses. From drawing paper, woodblock prints, and shoji screens to doll-making, wrapping paper, and postcards, the three main materials are kozo, mitsumata, and gampi, all plant fibers. However, hemp, wood pulp, bamboo, etc are also commonly used for cheaper, everyday products and often in washi paper-making experiences for tourists.
