Vtg Japanese Clay Bell Dorei

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, Dorei or Tsuchi-Suzu. It is in the shape of a hime daruma, a type of alternative-style daruma featuring a young girl, usually with a kimono and a sweet face. This particular one is mostly white with black eyes and red lips. On the body, there is a poem by the famous Japanese poet Matsuo Basho, along with the scenery it depicts. There is a red string tied at the top via a loop, and a white clay ball inside.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
