Vtg Japanese Buddhist Senko Incense 

These are vintage Japanese Buddhist o-senko, incense sticks cased in a wooden box. It contains about four hundred and fifty-five sticks; seven bundles of incense sticks, and about sixty-five incense sticks in a bundle. Red paper bundling the sticks has a Japanese inscription. Purple string ties the wooden box and the lid, and the string is set with plum blossom-shaped metal parts on the box sides.
The scent of incense sticks is said to feed and purify the deceased, and the smoke delivers prayers and thoughts to the ancestors and the dead. Incense is also used to purify a space or to change one's state of mind.
