Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Doors
This is a 2-piece set of inner doors coming from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. The two doors, a total of four tall panels, showcase a slatted front and back with a light mesh fabric material with a twisting vine (karakusa) pattern on the inside for airflow. There are brass metal plate embellishments on the border as well as the hinges that feature chrysanthemums and peonies.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
