Vtg Japanese Fireman's Uniform Apron
This is a vintage Japanese fireman's uniform apron, also called haragake. It is made of heavy black and blue cotton fabric with three pockets for tools. It fits small, close to the body, and over the head. Then it fastens with ties around the back of the waist. The top piece is narrower than standard aprons as to allow for better movement of the chest and arms.
Haragake are aprons that have been a staple in working uniforms in Japan for a very long time. They are often associates with craftsmen such as carpenters as well as firemen and policemen of the old days. In more modern times, these are seen used in historical reenactments, TV and film, and during festivals (matsuri).
