Vtg Japanese Buddhist Senko Incense
These are vintage Japanese Buddhist o-senko, incense sticks cased in a wooden box. In the box, sticks are cased in eight paper tubes wrapped in paper. One tube contains about sixty-five sticks; about five hundred and twenty sticks in total. It has a gold inscription on the box lid.
The scent of incense sticks is said to feed and purify the deceased, and the smoke delivers prayers and thoughts to the ancestors and the dead. Incense is also used to purify a space or to change one's state of mind.
