Japanese Buddhist Costume Sash
This Japanese Buddhist costume surplice (wagesa or hangesa) is worn around the neck. It is light green with a white floral kamon (crest) on each side and a red seal, likely from a temple, on the inside of the fold. There is a beautiful waved decoration of the same material and color as the item at the bottom of each crest. This type of sash is called kataginu and can be worn when appearing in front of the Buddha, and during services and ceremonies. This particular kataginu is specifically linked to the Otani school of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. This item comes in a box.
