Japanese Traditional Footwear Straw Sandals
These are Japanese vintage woven straw sandals called waraji/warazori. These sandals are crafted from weaving dried rice straw into a simple oval shape and have twisted straw ties that secure the sandal to the ankle. Some include other material such as cloth, leather, or lacquered wood. Warazori/waraji have been a popular type of footwear since ancient times and are said to be lightweight and non-slip in mud and don't splash in water.
This pair is made almost entirely of straw material with gray fabric at the toe and heel. These are likely made the be worn by women or children, but can also serve a unique decorative element to any design.
