Vintage Japanese Wooden Shrine Plaque, Ema
This vintage Japanese ema plaque has a picture of two divine monkeys sitting in front of each other. It also has some wood-burned engraved inscriptions. It has a purple braided cord.
Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto, and sometimes Buddhist shrines, that worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
