Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku Sansui W/ Wooden Box
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a landscape with a small village near a river. Some boats and people are pictured. This is a colored landscape in the sansui style, with mountains, a river, and trees. This piece is signed by an artist Bakushu and a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box which says Saishiki Sansui meaning a colored landscape.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
