Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a black-and-white picture of a landscape with mountains in the background, a waterfall in the foreground, and some houses with a human figure at the center. It is a classic Suiboku Sansui piece, a landscape with mountains and water painted in black ink. It is signed and has a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box with the title on the lid.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
