Vintage Japanese Town Street Cleaning Photograph
This is a vintage Japanese sepia-tone Showa-era photograph of people coming together to clean and repair roads in a small town. Roads were not paved, so perhaps once a year, communities would use hoes and rakes to remove stones and repair holes and uneven ground (the men), and the women and children would assist by sweeping up any debris into open-sided baskets. Some neighborhoods today still gather once or twice a year and do tasks such as pulling weeds and cutting grass.
