Ceramic & Clay Bells (Dorei)
Japanese Dorei (土鈴), also known as Tsuchi-Suzu or clay bells, are traditional folk crafts cherished in Japan for centuries. Made from clay or earthenware and fitted with a small rattle inside, these bells were often associated with good fortune, protection, prosperity, and seasonal celebrations. Their gentle sound was traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits and bring blessings to the home.
At Chidori Vintage, we offer a carefully selected collection of authentic vintage Japanese Dorei sourced from across Japan. The collection includes zodiac animals, lucky charms, shrine and temple souvenirs, folk art figures, festival-themed bells, and regional designs that reflect Japan’s rich cultural traditions.
Each bell is handcrafted and carries its own unique character, whether as a symbol of good luck, a reminder of a special place, or simply a beautiful example of Japanese folk art. Today, vintage Dorei are prized by collectors for their charming designs, historical significance, and connection to Japan’s regional craft traditions.
