Japanese Buddhist Costume Sash
This Japanese Buddhist costume surplice (wagesa or hangesa) is worn around the neck. It is brownish-red with golden stripes at the bottom and has a purple and golden cord. There is a white floral kamon (crest) at the back of the neck, and a red seal, likely from a temple, on the inside. This particular sash is called kataginu and can be worn when appearing in front of the Buddha, and during services and ceremonies.
