Antique Japanese Mortuary Tablet Ihai 

This is a small antique Japanese mortuary tablet Ihai. A mortuary tablet is a place the spirit of a deceased person is enshrined. This type of Ihai (with a double door) is called Miyabi. It is black with gold paint and brown metal embellishments. A mortuary tablet (Kai de Ihai) can hold several deceased people in one place (names written on wood plates). This particular mortuary tablet contains no wood plates inside.
