Vintage Japanese Wooden Storage Box for Buddhist Item
Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc.
This rectangular vintage wooden storage box with a lid is made to hold some manner of Buddhist item (unknown). It can also be used for general storage of trinkets or use for display or other crafts/projects. The lid fits flush with the rest of the box.
- Kanji on lid: Four important kanji letters by Monk Seigan (seigan osho yondaiji), Kenshiki Myoushin (見色明心 By becoming one with the sounds and scents of nature, you will get closer to Buddha's mind)
