Japanese Lidded Wooden Storage Box
Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc.
This is a vintage Japanese handcrafted long and shallow wooden box. It is stained a dark brown color. The lid fits flat on the top loosely and held in place by two wooden brackets on the backside. This box appears to have been used for some sort of calligraphy materials, paints, or other ink as there are black ink marks all over the inside.
