Vintage Japanese Fabric Doll Figurine w/ Box
This is a vintage Chirimen-Zaiku silk fabric doll in the shape of a sheep (hitsuji) that represents the zodiac animals. It is made of beige, gold, and brown silk fabric. It has black eyes and a gold bell around its neck tied with a copper and gold silk cord.
Chirimen-Zaiku is a traditional handicraft with a history dating back to the Edo period. Dolls, decorations, and accessories are formed from cloth with a textured surface woven with twisted fibers known as yori. Chirimen products are often made from kimono fabric waste.
