This is a vintage wooden offering tray stand for Shinto and Buddhist ceremonies called sanbou or sanpo respectively. Made of classic cypress wood, it has eight sides and stands on a similarly shaped pedestal. It is used to make offerings to Shinto gods, to represent the Three Treasures of Buddhism (Sangha, Dharma, and Buddha), as well as to present objects to noble people in ancient times.
