Japanese Brushed Lacquer Lidded Fumibako Box w/ Box
This is a Japanese lacquered wooden letter box (fumibako). It is traditionally used to store letters, small books, important documents, paper, and other stationary items.
It is also often used for Buddhist items, such as altar prayer books, prayer beads, charms, and for incense storage.
This beautiful dark brown brushed lacquered box made of quality zelkova wood was a commemorative gift to someone. There is a gold-painted chrysanthemum on the lid and a kanji inscription on the inside of the lid. This item comes with the original paper box.
