This item is a decorative part from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. It consists of a phoenix-looking gold bird flying in front of foliage and flowers. The bird is framed into a wood part painted in gold and embellished with gold metal pieces. This whole item is gold on the front.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
