Japanese Wooden Kokeshi Doll
This is a vintage Japanese wooden doll figurine. It depicts raccoon dogs transforming into a tea kettle, Chagama, a motif from a Japanese folk tale, Bunbuku-chagama. Tea kettles have a grooved wooden grain on the surface, while the raccoon dog's heads and tails are smooth. Cute faces are hand-painted. There is an inscription on the kettle lid handle.
