Japanese Wooden Keshobako Cosmetics Box
This is a small Japanese cosmetics/jewelry box, also called keshobako. It is decorated with a yosegi-zaiku Japanese puzzle box pattern and uses simple metal hardware. This tansu chest has three drawers, two of which have a handpainted landscape of Mt. Fuji. It has a small mirror on small door. At one time, there was a collapsible shutter door hiding the two smaller drawers, but is missing.
This beautiful piece can not only be used for storing small cosmetic items or jewelry, but sewing/handicraft items, art supplies, or other trinkets.
Acquired from the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya, Japan
