Vintage Japanese Decorative Samurai Armor for Boy's Festival
This is a vintage miniature samurai armor (Yoroi) set used for display decoration during the Boy's Festival. It is housed in a black lacquered wooden box with gold metal floral embellishments. It contains multiple pieces including: Helmet with dragon ornament and finials, mask, body piece, draping bottom panels, a pair of shin guards, a pair of shoes, and a wooden stand. The armor features a gold hawk design on the body and helmet as well as other floral patterns on the silk fabrics. The box paired with the stand creates the illusion of a seated armored man.
The Boy's Festival, more modernly called Children's Day, is an annual Japanese holiday on May 5th every year and is celebrated to pray for good health and fortune for growing children.
