Vintage Japanese Lacquered Bento Lunch Box
This is a Japanese vintage lacquered bento lunch box, or jubako. A caramel brown in the Hida Shunkei style with a simple line pattern on all sides, it has two tiers, the bottom being attached to the frame. It has a handle for easy carrying. While it can be used for small meals, it can also be used as a sweets container, or kashiki for sencha and tea ceremonies.
This was purchased at the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya
